2010 September: Memorial Service for Mitsuo Aoki

Photos from our 2010 September trip to Hawaii are in chronlogical order.

Andrea and I flew to Hawaii on Friday, September 17th and returned to Torrance on September 27th. All photos by Andrea, unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, September 18. My son Robert and his wife Michelle arrived a day earlier (Thursday) than we did. Here Robert
prepares to capture some photons on the image plane of his digital camera.

It's a lot of work rounding up those photons.

Andrea's mom, Lenore.

Robert and Michell photographing Lenore while I exercise in the background.

Lenore watches the proceedings.

Pushups in the background while Robert readies his camera.

Situps in the background.

Robert and Michelle at the Church of the Crossroads before the memorial service. Those chairs in the background are
for the choir.

Lenore and I wait on a bench in the courtyard of the church.

Waiting continues.

Michel fans Robert with a program.

In the receiving line with Sophie-Ann and Galen Aoki.

Saturday, September 18. Galen Aoki embraces a guest before the memorial service at the Church of the Crossroads
on University Avenue. A string quartet from the University of Hawaii plays before the service.

That evening we ate at the Bluewater Grill in Hawaii Kai.

Returning from breakfast we stop at Diamond Head.

Wednesday, September 22. View toward Blackpoint from Diamond Head.

Wednesday, September 22. The "torture track" trail up Koko Head. It doesn't look like much from here, does it?

Wednesday, September 22. At the top of Koko Head crater, admiring the view. No, I am not saying "take the picture
already."

Wednesday, September 22. At the top with Hanauma Bay in the background through the bushes.

Wednesday, September 22. Andrea at top by some of the old cable machinery for pulling the car up the crater.
There was an anti-aircraft installation there in WW II. The structure was probably for camoflage netting.

View from Koko Head. Diamond Head is in the distance.

As we prepare to descend we are impressed by the steepness of the disappearing rail. Hanauma Bay is visible through
the bush on the left.

Thursday, September 23. We went to Makapuu body surfing beach. Not much surf that day.

Thursday, September 23. Makapuu beach.

Thursday, September 23. Rabbit Island from Makapuu.
