(Fall) Week Six, Monday; (Summer) Week Three, Tuesday: Viewing in 3D
6.1 The Synthetic Camera and Steps in 3D Viewing
The creation of a 2D image of 3D objects is a series of steps:
- Specification of projection type. This can change during
the viewing process, for example a "zoom" lens.
- Specification of viewing parameters. Location and orientation
of the viewer.
- Clipping in three dimensions.
- Projection and display.
6.2 Projections
Perspective Projections
Parallel Projections
6.3 Specification of an Arbitrary 3D View
View reference point (VRP).
View plane normal (VPN).
The center of projection is defined by the projection reference point (PRP).
6.4 Examples of 3D Viewing
Perspective Projections
Parallel Projections
Finite View Volumes
