Week Eleven, Monday: Equivalence Relations
Equivalence relations establish equivalence classes. All the elements
of an equivalence class have something in common. For example, the set
of all seniors at USC is an equivalence class because seniors can be
distinguished from all other students at USC.
Partitions
Equivalence classes partition a set. In the example above, the set of
students at USC is partitioned into the subsets "seniors" and "others."
