February 2020 Chess Game

The game shown here was played against my chess applet, the Homeostatic Chess Player, a computer program I wrote in the first year of this century. Humans are not allowed to look at books during a tournament, and neither should computers. There is no book built into the Homeostatic Chess Player, it invents all its openings. However, in this instance I guided black into the Two Knights Defense (using the human-human mode) to see how it would handle it.

Two Knights Defense, Fried Liver Attack

I played white, minimal look ahead is six tempi. February 27-28.

	White	Black
1.	e4	e5 A "classic" double king pawn game. Normally the Homeostatic Chess Player doesn't play this.
2.	Nf3	Nc6 Nc6 is considered a strong response.
3.	Bc4	Nf6 The "Two Knights Defense."
4.	Ng5	d5 Ng5 is the Steinitz attack, named after the world champion and "father of positional chess."
5.	exd5	Nxd5 Nxd5 is considerd weaker than Na5 as it invites white's next move, a knight sacrifice.

Position after move 5.
6.	Nxf7	Kxf7 The Fried Liver Attack. Black must accept the sacrifice.
7.	Qf3+	Ke6 The black king must move toward the center to avoid losing material immediately. Black's life will be hard.
8.	Nc3	Nb4
9.	Qe4	c6
10.	O-O	b5 White gets his king to safety before resuming the attack with d4.

Position after move 10.
11.	Bb3	Kd6
12.	a3	Qa5
13.	d4	Nxc3
14.	Qxe5+	Kd7
15.	axb4	Ne2+ White's rook is poison due to the potential for a queen's bishop check on the black king.

Position after move 15.
16.	Qxe2	Qxa1
17.	Be6+	Ke8 Other moves for black fail as well.
18.	Bxc8+	Be7
19.	Bg5	Qxf1+ White threatens mate, winning the black queen for a rook.
20.	Kxf1	Kd8

Position after move 20.
21.	Bb7	Bxg5
22.	Bxa8	Re8
23.	Qf3	Bd2
24.	g3	Re1+
25.	Kg2	Bxb4 The game went on for 24 more moves before black resigned.

Position after move 25.
