2017 Team Magma Houston Championship

The Kalani High School Team Magma is FRC 3008.

The FRC Championship was held at Houston, Texas, at the George R. Brown Convention Center, from Wednesday, April 19th through Saturday, April 22nd. The team stayed at the Houston Hyatt Regency hotel. Andrea and I stayed in Hawaii this year. The team flew early to Houston on Sunday, April 16th, so they had some time for sight seeing before load-in on Wednesday.

Monday


The team rendezvoused at Honolulu international airport and flew to Houston overnight, arriving Monday morning.


They spent Monday sightseeing, here at a butterfly center.

Friday


Team Magma had a good day Friday, finishing number four in Newton Division.


The robot and drive team did very well.

From teacher and lead mentor Bryan Silver via email on Friday: "We finalized in 4th seed. with 8 wins, 1 lose and a tie. The kids are super excited. Thank you so much for helping us get here. Awards tomorrow and alliance selection fingers crossed we will see were we will go."

Saturday


The team got the Entrepreneurship Award at the Saturday morning awards ceremony.

Our Newton Alliance: 3008, 1622 Spyder, 5842 Royal Robotics Florida, and 3489 Category 5 Florida. We won the quarterfinal
in three matches, and lost the semifinal in three matches. 3008 was the number three alliance captain.
