1997 Monterey Trip

From November 6, through November 11, 1997, the Wagner family traveled by car to the Monterey Bay area.

We spent the first night at the Lamplighter Inn in San Luis Obispo and
had dinner at the 1865 Restaurant. Afterwards we went for a swim in the
motel pool. The next morning we stopped at the Mission San Luis Obispo,
shown above.

Saturday morning we had breakfast in a converted cannery on Cannery Row in Monterey.

We took a look at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This photograph was taken
from the new wing housing the new Outer Bay exhibit.

Later we visited with Pat and Mark (with Johnny shown here).

Looking across the park from the breakwater toward our hotel, the
Cannery Row Inn. Our room had the smallest bathroom I've ever seen
not in an airplane or RV. The location was ideal, however.

We revisited the aquarium on Sunday. This dramatic window view caught my eye.

It's fascinating to watch the fish swim.

I was puzzled by the caption in this scene in the video "A Day in the Life of the Outer Bay." Viewed from a position
in the outer bay, the moon will rise over land.

An award-winning quilt was on exhibit in the lobby of the aquarium. This got
Becky's attention, as she is an accomplished seamstress.

Before heading to my father's house for a barbecue, we stopped at the
arcade for a merry-go-round ride.
