New Year's Day

Sunday, January 1, was New Year's Day. The Rose Parade will be on Monday because they don't do it on Sundays. Andrea and I went for a walk before breakfast.


We walked to the makai end of Lawelawe Street.

Jigsaw Puzzle

Andrea worked on her jigsaw puzzle, Escape to Wine Country, every day since Christmas.


On Tuesday, January 3, Andrea declared victory on her 1500 piece puzzle.

Mahalo Jessica Potluck at Manoa Heritage Center

Andrea had tours at Mission Houses while I went to the MHC potluck on Friday, January 6. Jessica is moving to a new job at Honolulu Museum of Art.


I arrived shortly before the 12:30 PM start time, bringing a fruit salad that Andrea had made.


I talked to Jun and Devin. My plate is on the left.


Jessica loved the many lei.


Over 20 people came to the event.

Rainbow Bonsai Club January Meeting

The club met on Sunday, January 8, for the regular monthly meeting.


After doing the December show post-mortem, led by John, Scott gave his treasurer's report.


After the business meeting, I conducted a benefit drawing for prizes.


After the drawing, we did show and tell. Shogo talks about two of his creations he brought to share.


Scott asked if I could do a wiring demonstration on his dwarf Natal plum.

Manoa Heritage Center Tour

Andrea took the cats to the vet on Wednesday afternoon, January 11, so I did her tour for her at MHC.


I had a tour group of three, two from California and one from the east coast.

The Movie Cirkus at the Doris Duke Theater

Andrea and I went to see the Bollywood movie Cirkus at the Doris Duke Theater at the Museum of Art on Beretania Street.

The movie was fun and over two hours long. We parked in the museum parking lot and on the way back we stopped for a photo at
this carved stone.

Dinner with Joleen

Andrea and I invited Joleen over for dinner on Sunday evening, January 15. Andrea made chicken curry and we had home made coconut ice cream for dessert.


We had wine and pupu on the lanai.

Chant Practice at Manoa District Park

Andrea and I attended the chant practice for Manoa Heritage Center docents at Manoa District Park in the afternoon on Monday, January 16.


I hadn't realized that there is an Olympic size swimming pool behind the pavilion.


This is the pavilion where Kilohana's hula halau practices.

Afterward we celebrated a birthday.

KISCA (Kahala) Hui Zoom Meeting

Andrea and I the first KISCA meeting of the new year on Wednesday, January 18.


Attendance at this first meeting of the year was good.


Friday evening Andrea photographed some dead carp in the stream behind Joleen's house.

Maya—Magic of Music and Dance

Saturday, January 21, I mowed the lawn and put up the new weather station to replace the failed one that was several years old. In the evening Andrea and I went to the HoMA event of Bollywood music and dance.

The new weather station is a Sainlogic wifi with 10 inch display. It is now connected to wunderground.com via the internet.

The name "KULIOUOU - KALANI IKI STATION" for my PWS was assigned by Wunderground. I have asked them to change it to "WAILUPE VALLEY."

The Mystery of Edwin Drood at the Manoa Valley Theater

Sunday afternoon Andrea and I went to see the musical farce at MVT.

Inside the theater before I turned off my phone.


After the show we walked over to Paesano's in the Manoa Shopping Center for dinner. We were able to get a table without a reservation.

Chanting Practice at Manoa Heritage Center

Monday afternoon Andrea and I drove separately for chanting practice of He Mele No Kuali'i. Andrea stayed for hula.


We sat in a circle with Kilohana.


Joleen gave Kilohana a head lei and a kiss for her birthday.

Dinner at Roy's in Hawaii Kai

Wednesday evening we went to dinner in Hawaii Kai. I had a Roy's reservation for 6:30 but we decided to cancel that last Monday and go for the happy hour specials at five o'clock.


The flier for next month's pot luck open house for Aina Haina Prepared.


The Eddie ran last Sunday at Waimea Bay and I couldn't resist downloading one of the awesome photos. It's bigger than when I rode it.


On our morning walk there were interesting clouds. Lenore would have been 98 today.

Aina Haina Elementary School at the Manoa Heritage Center

Thursday morning Andrea and I drove to the Manoa Heritage Center to give tours to the school children who came on a school bus.


The children got ready to be divided into four groups.


Keala teaches one group the mo'olelo of Manoa with the tuahine rain and rainbow. Grandfather mountain, grandmother ohia, son wind,
daughter tuahine rain, and child rainbow.


Andrea found this photo online of Manu Kai (sea bird) that we will be sailing on next month for Lenore's ash scattering event.

A Rainy Sunday

Sunday morning, January 29, we had just over an inch of rain in the gauge at 8:00 AM when I emptied it. Then in the afternoon we had another inch and a third.
