Ground Hog Day

February second was a Thursday this year. I spent the morning of February 1 at the office of Dr. Ellison getting a basal cell skin cancer on my right upper outer ear lobe eradicated.

Hula at Manoa Heritage Center

Andrea had hula and Hawaiian language class at the Manoa Heritage Center on Saturday, February 4. I stayed home and worked in the yard.

Brian Gould's Philosophy Meetup

On Sunday the fifth I participated in the monthly philosophy meetup on Zoom, organized by Prof. Brian Gould in the Los Angeles area.

Chanting Practice at Manoa Heritage Center

Monday afternoon, February 6, Andrea and I drove separately for chanting practice of He Mele No Kuali'i. Andrea stayed for hula.


Andrea and I went up to Kuko'o heiau while we were waiting for Kilohana to arrive.

On Tuesday Morning, February 7, Andrea and I went to the community policing event and then went grocery shopping in preparation for Becky and Eric's arrival this afternoon.

On Tuesday afternoon Andrea and I went to the Manoa Heritage Center to lead a tour.

On Wednesday morning I drove Becky and Eric to Sans Souci beach for some fun activities.

It was cool and windy so we didn't spend much time on the beach.


We got into the aquarium free on my membership card.


We went to the Hau Tree Restaurant in the Kaimana Hotel.


Eric had the ahi appetizer, Becky had a salad, and I had the kaimana burger.

Wednesday evening we all went to the art department auditorium for a lecture on Polynesian anthropology.

Friday, February 10, Becky and Eric scrubbed the kitchen floor in preparation for the celebration.

Celebration Dinner Party

On February 14, Valentine's Day, we held a celebratory dinner party with about 30 people who knew Lenore.


Bill helped Andrea blow up balloons.


Becky and Eric worked in the kitchen.

Dinner at Roy's

On February 15, Wednesday, Tom flew back to LAX and Andrea and I took Becky and Eric to dinner at Roy's in Hawaii Kai.

Honolulu Beer Works

On February 17, Friday, Becky and Eric wanted to go to Honolulu beer works in Kaka'ako before Eric left for the airport to return to Connecticut. I drove them and Andrea met us there after her hula lesson after she gave a tour at Mission Houses. Then I went to Straub Outpatient Clinic to get my monthly Xgeva shot.


Eric and Rebecca both got the six-glass samplers.


It had quit raining for a while when I got home to feed the cats at four.

Celebration of Life for Mary Cooke

Andrea, Becky, and I attended the Celebration of Life for Mary Cooke at the Central Union Church of Honolulu on Beretania Street. We arrived at 2:30 to help. Andrea helped at the check-in table. I assisted kupuna as necessary. The service began at 4:00 PM.

The Elixer of Love at the Blaisdel Concert Hall

Sunday afternoon we went to see the Hawaii Opera Theater production of The Elixer of Love at the Blaisdel Concert Hall. We went to Panya restaurant for dinner afterward.

Presidents Day

Monday was Presidents Day. We met Kim, Pete, and Lynn at the Hau Tree restaurant for brunch.

We stopped at the aquarium so Becky could resolve an issue with the Web images from the photos she bought previously.

Sans Souci Beach

On Tuesday the twenty-first, Andrea had a Manoa Heritage Center Tour and Becky and I went to the beach.


Construction continues at Sans Souci Beach Park.


We walked by the aquarium after doing pullups and looked at the Betty's Burgers food truck installation.

The Banyan Court at the Moana Hotel

The evening of Thursday, the twenty-third, we went to Waikiki to have cocktails and pupu at the Banyan Court Beach Bar at the Moana Hotel.


Andrea took Becky to get mani-pedis before lunch and their massages.


I started working to restore a small wind chime. This is the before photo.

Dinner and Games at Home

We invited Joleen, Paul, and Faye over for dinner and games on Friday night, February 24. We played bocce ball on the back lawn for a while until we got rained out. Then we went inside and played Telestrations, a picture drawing game, after dinner.

Hula at the Mission Houses Museum

We met our friend Faye at the Mission Houses for a presentation of hula, oli, and mele. Andrea, Becky, and I went early to assist with setup and we stayed late to put the chairs away.

Drive to Kaneohe, Waimanalo, and Bellows Beach

We drove through the Wilson Tunnel on the Like Like Highway to Kaneohe and then to Waimanalo for a beachwalk on Bellows Beach on Sunday morning, February 26.


We drove onto the military reservation and around the big U to the beach at the end of the old runway where I used to walk
when I was in the Air Force and living in the barracks there 53 years ago.

We stopped at Dave's Ice Cream in Waimanalo after the beach. Ice cream selfie by Becky. We stopped at the plate lunch place in Waimanalo
and got food for lunch. Becky and Andrea got lau lau. I got the teriyaki meatballs mini-plate.


Sunday afternoon I attended the monthly philosophical meetup hosted by Brian Gould on Zoom. The topic was categories.


In the evening I made Blue Hawaiis for us.

Sans Souci Beach

On Monday afternoon, the 27th, Becky and I went to the beach while Andrea went to her hula halau.


We walked by the Natatorium and saw the damaged sea wall behind the Aquarium. The pedestrian path is blocked off until repairs are made.

I went home after an hour and Andrea picked up Becky after her hula lesson. They went to Kono's and got some kalua pork pupu.

La Mariana Sailing Club

Thuesday morning, the last day of February, we went to neighbor Ricky's house to look at his sculptures. Then Becky packed up and we drove her to the airport, stopping at La Mariana Sailing Club for lunch, and at Menehuna Mac for chocolates.
