March 2021 Journal Photos

Conversations in Consciousness

I continued with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UH course "Conversations in Consciousness," by Mana Trink, and attended another Zoom session, on Monday, March 1.

After lunch, and before the class, Andrea and I drove out to Diamond Head to look at the surf. We saw a pod of dolphins.

Visit to Dr. Ellison

I drove downtown to Dr. Ellison's office to get a basal cell skin cancer removed from the area above my lip and to the right of my nose on Friday morning, March 5.

After the first few days of March being somewhat wet, Andrea sent this photo of the stream while I was in surgery.

Friday afternoon Andrea went to the care home for a Zoom session with Mom.

Drive to Makapuu

Andrea and I drove to Makapuu after lunch and nap on Saturday, March 6.

We stopped at Sandy Beach and Andrea took some pictures.

At Makapuu Lookout.

Andrea got the above photo being taken.

There is very little sand now in the Makapuu cove. It will likely return in the summer. Photo by Andrea.

On Sunday Andrea posted this photo from seven years ago on Facebook (March 2014).

Conversations in Consciousness

I continued with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UH course "Conversations in Consciousness," by Mana Trink, and attended another Zoom session, on Monday, March 8.

My sister Christina sent me this photo of crocuses blooming at her house in Idaho with happy bees.

My screen grab from Mana Trink's class.

Covid Vaccination

I received an appointment to get vaccinated at Pier 2 downtown for Wednesday afternoon, March 10.

On this day, Tuesday, ten years ago: at Bluewater Grill in Hawaii Kai, closed for several years now. Facebook photo posted by Andrea.

Andrea went photographing the stream on Tuesday morning.

Wednesday morning Andrea attended a Zoom webinar by FEMA on financial resiliency. This is one of the screen shots.

We had quite a bit of rain, thunder, and lightning Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Andrea took this photo of the back yard Thursday morning.

By 10:00 AM Thursday it had cleared up and Andrea went to the care home for a Zoom session with Mom. In the afternoon I had my facial stitches
taken out at Dr. Ellison's office at Queen's POB II. Andrea dropped me off and visited the Muu Muu Factory in Kakaako.

Saturday morning, March 13, Andrea saw some wild pigs up on Hind Iuka in the slide area. It was raining hard.

Drive to Sandy Beach

Andrea and I drove to Sandy Beach on Sunday afternoon, March 14.

Sunday morning the sky was bright and clear. Photo by Andrea during her morning walk on Hao Street.

We didn't stop so I took two photos from the car window.

The surf was huge, but it doesn't show well from the road.

Vaccination for Andrea

Andrea and I went to Pier 2 Tuesday morning, March 16, for her first Pfizer shot.

We parked again in the Aloha Tower parking lot and walked to Pier 2. This dinner cruise catamaran appears to remain idled.

Friday, March 19, we learned that Eric has covid, so we sent him a get well edible arrangement.

Zoom Meeting with Lenore

Andrea drove to the care home on Sunday morning, March 21, and set up her laptop for a Zoom meeting.

Emma was on my lap for a while. Screen shot by Becky.

Bill and Becky joined us.

Sunday afternoon Andrea and I walked down to the bridge to take a look at the stream.

Emma

Andrea drove Mom to the dermatologist on Thursday morning, March 25, while I stayed home and exercised. Emma looked cute on the box so I took her photo.

Walter was in Salinas, California this week and niece Lisa sent me this photo of him visiting her family.

I brought in my octopus root style (neagari) autograph tree for a photograph on Friday morning, March 26.

Palm Sunday

The full moon is today, March 28, first one after the equinox, so next Sunday is Easter.

Andrea and I drove to Diamond Head in the morning to check the surf. Kind of a gray day. Click the image for the full resolution version.
When we got home I checked her tire pressures. All four are 34 psi.

Interesting clouds. Photo by Andrea.

Zoom meeting with Mom in the afternoon.

We had sent the grandkids Starbucks gift cards for Easter and Malia sent us this photo, presumably at Starbucks.

Garbage Presentation

Adele arranged with the city for Henry Gabriel to give a Zoom presentation to the community for Aina Haina Prepared on trash and debris under emergency condition.

Henry said he loves to "talk garbage."

Danny had given out the wrong Zoom link initially but he corrected in realtime so the attendence went up to two dozen a few minutes later.

Second Covid Vaccination

My second covid-19 Pfizer vaccination was on Wednesday, the last day of March.

In the morning I finished a two-day chess game against my Java applet. Looking six moves ahead (12 tempi), the machine resigns when it sees
the checkmate. In the applet's heuristic system, the king is worth a thousand points (a pawn is one), so the performance metric (PM) is highly
negative. It resigns when it goes below 500 (or above 500 when playing black).
