Andrea got up earlier than I on New Year's Day and swept up the firecracker residue next door. Then she fixed home made sausage and eggs for breakfast.
Some other expressions for the occasion are gung hay fat choy (Chinese) and hauoli makahiki hou (Hawaiian, literally "happy makahiki again"). Makahiki is the Hawaiian winter festival from mid-November until early March.
Andrea took Lenore for a morning drive on Wednesday, New Year's Day, and saw this dramatic sky off the Ka Iwi coast (east end of Oahu).
The shade was pretty badly damaged. The lamp has been in the family as long as anyone can remember.

In the afternoon I went to the beach while Andrea did her Thursday Mission Houses tours (noon and 2:00 PM). It drizzled the whole time I was at
the beach. Fishing is allowed in even numbered years. They didn't catch anything besides a small eel while I was there.
Friday morning, January 3, I reassembled the lamp with new lamp cord, and tested it out with the old lamp shade. Andrea has ordered a new one.

I went to the beach on Monday the 6th while Andrea went to Costco. A crew was pruning coconut palms near the Aquarium.

Thursday the ninth I brought neighbor Pete along to robotics as a potential mentor. He has a daughter who goes to Kalani High School.

Friday afternoon I went for a swim whil Andrea volunteered at the Mission Houses. A monk seal visited the Sans Souci Apartments end of the beach.
An idiot was in the water inside the cones, within 50 feet of the seal, a violation of federal and state law.
I went to robotics Saturday morning. Mija was setting up a Web repository for software files.

Sunday afternoon I painted the tiki and set it in a disk of anchoring cement using a See's candy tin I got for Christmas from Andrea.
A large scaffolding has been set up in the restaurant space.

When I arrived around 5:30 PM the programming team had the test bed up and running.

Before heading home I stopped in the Kaimana Hotel to see if the bar is open while the construction is going on. It's not. The sign
said that there were emergency repairs underway and they would be completed by January 31.

Afterward we went to the Moana Hotel for ahi poke nachos and mai tais.
We were entertained with ukulele and song.

Thursday morning Becky and I went for a swim while Andrea went to a doctor's appointment. Then we did pull-ups and bar dips and looked for fish.
