After our afternoon swim at Sans Souci Beach we walked to the bandstand area in Kapiolani Park to see the Lei Day event.
Andrea and I bought new hats there from a hat vendor.

Kai Kahele of Hilo, who is opposing Tulsi Gabbard in the next primary election, spoke to the delegates.

It began to rain as registration closed at 9:00 AM.
Moanalua High School alumni will recognize the cafeteria with its unique large mural paintings and its upper level over the entryway.
Voting was by show of voting cards.
The cafeteria is across Menehune Square, dedicated to Principal Kim in 1986.

Tuesday, May 7, there was the lifeguard rescue jet ski at the lifeguard tower.
There were two turtles, barely visible in this photo, down at the Sans Souci Apartments end of the beach.
On the way to the beach Wednesday we saw Dr. Lynn Johnson's talk on La Traviata, with cast, at the Doris Duke Theater at the Museum of Art.

We ordered ahi poke nachos and mai tais.

We bought some papaya at the farmers' market in the Hayatt Hotel lobby.
Some people call it "Dig Me Beach," and others call it Kaimana Beach, but it really is Sans Souci Beach.
More volunteers arrived and setup got underway.
The presentation area was set up with a PA system.
We had over 30 organizations represented.
The fire department was there.

Malia sent six owl pots to Andrea for Mother's Day and I put some jade cuttings in them.

After lunch we watched the surf there at Maunalua Bay.

We each received a program for the three act opera as we entered.
Most of the seats filled up before the show started. A great opera with exceptional voices and orchestra.

After the tour we stopped in Kahala Mall to have lunch at Chili's. It used to be The Yum Yum Tree and before that it was a Chart House restaurant.
Andrea had a chicken salad and I had the shrimp tacos.
When we got home I signed Andrea up for a "boarding pass" name registration for a NASA Mars mission.
The Vice President was acting President.
We got a little history of music in Hawaii. Chants, sea chantys, and religious music ("prayer hymns").
Hawaii's opera star, Quinn Kelsey, was scheduled to be there but was unable to appear due to illness.
Stacy, Kamehameha Schools' archivist, gave a talk on the life of Tandy Mackenzie, a Kamehameha alumnus.

After the tour we went to the beach where I took this photo of a sailing waa (canoe) on the sand.
There was also a monk seal sleeping in front of the lifeguard tower.
After swimming we walked into the hotel district and had mai tais and pupu at Hula's bar in the Outrigger Hotel.
We walked over to the International Market Place and I couldn't resist a photo of this classic paint print on wood on display at Sand People.

The next day I received this photo of a Rawsome bar Becky found in her hotel room in Ankara, Turkey.
The meeting was well attended and started at 6:30 and ended before 8:00.
