Andrea finished sending out the Christmas cards today with this enclosure.

By noon the cast iron tub had been broken up and removed.

The second run of pipe being installed, crossing under the electrical conduit.

There was no plumbing work on Sunday the second. Andrea and I walked down to Jack's in the Aina Haina Shopping Center for breakfast. Only the front bathroom drains are usable now. Andrea put a bucket in the kitchen sink for washing dishes.

Monday

Plumbing work continued on Monday, December 3.

Sunday night we heard fireworks not too far away. Monday morning Bill Meyers posted this photo taken from Paiko.

We bought a Christmas tree from Holy Nativity Episocopal Church in Aina Haina on Monday morning and got it set up.

Andrea and I attended the Aina Haina Prepared year end meeting Tuesday evening, December 4, at Wailupe Community Center.

The booby dived in to catch a fish then sat on the water again.

At the year end meeting and dinner for Aina Haina Prepared. Danny had the board members, including Andrea and me, stand for recognition.

Danny handed out certificates of thanks to volunteers.

Back to square one on the drain pipe. They finally listened to me after I called the office Wednesday about the drain slope problem.
The damaged shut-off valve was replaced later Thursday. Damaged water pipe to front bathroom still needs repair.

It was dark already when we arrived. Photo taken at 6:38 PM.

The stage set was of the Connecticut farm house of Mason Farm.

Friday afternoon I went to the beach and saw this spotted eel in the shallows by the Sans Souci apartments.

Christmas Party

Andrea and I gave a Christmas party at the house on Saturday evening, December 8.

I put seven candles and a service candle in the menorah (far right) and lit them at 5:30 PM. They burned for about an hour.

Alan and Anna brought two of their grandkids.

State representative Mark Hashem (at food table) brought his son Noah.

Andrea and I wore our naughty/nice hats.

People brought all kinds of things to eat and drink so there was plenty for everyone.

Our Christmas tree was set up in the front room.

Many conversations took place and the general hubub drowned out the Christmas music.

Rainbow Bonsai Club Meeting

Andrea and I attended the monthly Rainbow Bonsai Club meeting, the last one with me presiding and andrea as secretary, on Sunday morning, December 9.

We got up early and drove to Waimanalo through the Honolulu Marathon and stopped for breakfast at Jack in the Box.

After the business meeting members showed some of their trees to be put in the show at Noelani Elementary School in Manoa next Sunday.

Some members worked on trees and had refreshments.

On Monday the plumbers were back at work. The new four inch pipe will be covered in concrete where it passes over the lanai slab.

Cole repaired the damaged water pipe.

Internations Meeting at Wisp

Andrea and I attended an Internations meeting at Wisp, on Tuesday evening, December 11.

Plumbing work continued on Tuesday. Cole installs a new water heater.

We parked near the Aquarium and on the walk to Wisp stopped for a photo at the kamani tree in Sans Souci Beach Park.

A large club gathering was at Wisp and service was difficult, so Andrea and I left to go to the Kaimana Hotel bar.

We had Manhattans with calamari, fried zucchini, and New York steak pupu. We stopped at Russel Convenience for ice cream on the way home.

Received on Wednesday morning, the Manoa Heritage Center's email Christmas Card featured this photo of Andrea. Photo by Manoa Heritage Center.

I went to the beach Wednesday at the time of low tide, 3:33 PM. View behind the Waikiki Aquarium.

On Thursday morning I took this photo of the lychee tree which continues to recover from its severe pruning over a month ago.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I downloaded this vintage cheesecake photo from a Facebook friend.

The Kaimana Hotel sent me an email including this nice picture of Santa relaxing in the sun.

Christmas Party at Home Away from Home

Andrea and I attended the Home Away from Home Christmas Party at the Palolo site, on Friday evening, December 14. Lenore, staying at the Kuli'ou'ou home, also came.

Lenore was at our table when Andrea and I arrived. I'm wearing the new glasses I got today. Photo by Andrea.

The long driveway of the Palolo home was tented over and decorated with lots of lights.

Christmas music on ukulele and bass.

Nice table decorations and Christmas mugs to take home.

Norma Carr was at the next table with her family.

Entertainment included Samoan dancing by three of the nieces.

Dance music was played. Photo by Andrea.

On Saturday Andrea went for a mid-day massage at Helen's Havven so I fixed myself lunch: chicken sandwich, cookies, cake, and candy.

The annual Rainbow Bonsai Club show and plant sale was held on Sunday, December 16, at Noelani Elementary School in Manoa from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Setup began at 7:00 AM.

Setup was complete just after 8:00 AM. The bonsai display was set up on both sides of the room divider.

My moyogi bougainvillia.

My chokan hau tree. This is the first time I've had two bonsai in a show.

Just before the 9:00 AM opening, the line stretched far along the walkway. The parking lot was completely full.

After the doors opened, the crowd came in to look and buy.

President-elect Ryan gave a demonstration using his dwarf jade tree. I assisted and narrated. Photo by Andrea.

Ryan talked with people after the demonstration.

It was the first time we had a novice table, the three displays on the right. Not bad.

I created a separate page for the bonsai show photos.

Winter Solstice

The winter solstice fell on Friday, December 21, this year and the full moon is the following day. Andrea and I invited Jerry and Jenifer over for dinner on Friday. It turns out they are celebrating their anniversary.

My phone camera failed to save a picture earlier after an operating system upgrade Thursday, the 20th, so testing it, I took this picture
of Paul Forney's painting.

Thursday afternoon we went to the beach. It was fairly crowded, and not just with Christmas tourists. I'll bet that over half of them
are locals getting an early start on Christmas vacation.

Friday the 21st we had breakfast with Diane and her daughter Melissa at the Hau Tree Lanai. They were leaving for Maui later that morning.

Friday evening Jennifer and Jerry came over for dinner of boeuf bourguignon. We also had fire crackers and Christmas crackers.

In the afternoon beautiful Andrea catches some rays and catches up on some reading.

Lunch at Mama Pho's

Andrea and I went to the First Hawaiian Bank branch in Aina Haina Shopping Center and then had lunch at Mama Pho's on Thursday, December 27.

I took this photo of Andrea while we were waiting for our order to be prepared. Andrea had lemon grass chicken spring rolls.

I tested the "stickers" feature on my phone camera. I had the lemon grass chicken and tofu rice plate.

In the afternoon we went to the beach. It's the most crowded I've seen it in a long time. Click the image to see the full resolution version.

Friday The black dragon hibiscus was blooming. A thunderstorm moved in with an approaching cold front and we got lots of rain and
lightning. No beach today! Click the image to see the full resolution version.

New Year's Celebration

Carl Young came on Saturday the 29th and set up the pig roast equipment next door in preparation for the New Year's Eve party Monday. I provided some firewood and lent him a four pound hammer for putting in the steel stakes to hold the sheet metal sides.

On Sunday Andrea completed the landscaping on the side yard where the plumbers had dug it up to put in the replacement sewer pipe.

Andrea took Mom for a drive around Makapuu on Monday morning before stopping at City Mill for grass seed, compost, and fertilizer.

Carl, Glen, and Bronson set up the pig roast fire in the back by the wall as usual for New Year's Eve.

The fire set up with Bronson and Carl.
