games I played this month.
PokeMon Go Players at the Waikiki Aquarium
I went to the beach by myself while Andrea went shopping on Monday afternoon, August 1st. The PokeMon Go players
have been a fixture in front of the Waikiki Aquarium and on the median of Kalakaua Avenue for about three weeks now.
How many PokeMon Go players can you count? I got 18.
Shakespeare Class at the University of Hawaii
Andrea and I went to our usual Shakespeare comedy class on Tuesday afternoon, August 2nd at Krauss Hall.
Krauss Hall is one of the few old time buildings left on campus. It was originally built as the Pineapple Research Institute.
Ke Kani O Ke Kai
We attended the fifth and final bi-weekly summer show on Thursday, August 4th at the Waikiki Aquarium. The bill
included Jeff Peterson, Melveen Leed, and Natalie Ai Kamauu.
In the morning I took this picture of a pretty flower growing outside our Kitchen.
Waiting for the show to begin. We had dinners by Haili's Hawaiian on Kapahulu. Photo by Andrea.
Before the show started, I went for a look at the aquarium exhibits.
This is the floor tile installation by Claude Horan.
Dr. Rossiter, head of the Aquarium, spoke before the show. We won two kahuna dinner plates from Haili's in the drawing. Photo by Andrea.

We had a nice sunset. A sliver moon (second day) followed the sun down. Photo by Andrea.
Natalie Ai Kamauu with her brother on bass and husband on guitar. Her daughter danced hula and Natalie asked our friend
Nalani up to dance too. Nalani has a halau (dance school) in Pearl City.

Haili's Hawaiian Food
On the way home from the beach Andrea and I stopped at Haili's Hawaiian Food on Kapahulu Avenue on Friday afternoon, August 5th,
to redeem the certificate we won the night before for two Big Kahuna plates. We got them to go: lau lau, kalua pig, rice, chicken long rice,
lomi salmon, poke, and haupia. It was enough ono kau kau for three for dinner and lunch left over.
The Hawaii Five-O movie crew had set up their canopies on the beach by the Natatorium.
Some repair work on the vollyball court asphalt was also underway.
Movie people were flying a camera quadroter over the Natatorium.

On Saturday afternoon, Andrea went phonebanking for Hillary. Photo by Andrea.
Malama Maunalua Paiko Huki
Andrea went to Paiko Beach to help with the limu huki for Malama Maunalua on Monday, August 8th.
Getting ready to go out and mark off the area with bouys.
Green Koko Head.
Sans Souci Beach Park
Andrea went to the beach for a swim as usual on Wednesday afternoon, August 10th.

The volleyball court at the Natatorium has been resurfaced and now they are laying out the striping.
Sixty-seventh Birthday
I turned 67 on Thursday, August 11th.
After my morning workout (floor exercise, weight lifting, and running), I took a birthday selfie.
In the afternoon, after a swim, I took this photo of the refinished and striped volleyball court at the Natatorium.

A good time.
Rainbow Bonsai Club
Andrea and I attended the monthly club meeting on Sunday morning, August 14th, in our usual capacities as
Secretary and acting President. Andrea had spent 13 hours Saturday as a volunteer at the local poll for the primary
election (Aina Haina elementary school cafeteria). Sunday evening we had a dozen friends over for a party.
After the business meeting we had bonsai show and tell.

Shakespeare's Comedies Course
Andrea and I attended the fourth weekly session at Krauss Hall at UH on Tuesday afternoon, August 16th.
Two student photographers came to take photos for the UH Foundation.
Today was move-in day for the new dorm students, so parking was a bit tight.
A Midsummer Night's Dream at Marks Garage
Andrea and I went to the show with Bill and Caroline on Wednesday evening, August 17th, the night of the full moon.
We went to the dentist Wednesday morning and on the way home stopped on Hao Street to photograph the excavation work.
Bill and Caroline came by at 5:30 PM and we drove to Chinatown for dinner at Kan Zaman restaurant. There's an ancient elevator
in the building on Nuuanu.

Hawaii Statehood Day
The third Friday in August is Hawaii Statehood Day, this year on August 19th.
This is the Bordeaux wine box that Paul and Faye Zasada gave me. I am thinking of making a planter out of it. With box joints
and nice wood, it seems too fine for a planter, but I have had it for a couple of months and haven't found anything else to
do with it. This is the "before" shot.
Pupus and Politics
Andrea and I attended this Hawaii Democratic Party fundraiser on Sunday afternoon, August 21st. "Pupu" is the
Hawaiian word for finger food, and because Hawaiian words don't have plural forms, the name of the event should more properly
have been "Pupu and Politics."
Andrea and I sat at a table fairly near the front in the Kakaako Room in Ward Warehouse. Andrea chatted with Juanita.
The head of the LGBT caucus presented a Hillary banner.
Democrats united behind Hillary. Including Brian Schatz, Kirk Caldwell, and Tulsi Gabbard.
Tulsi spoke.
Also Kirk.
Governor Ige.
We stopped for take home dinner at Mr. Egg Roll.
Shark Sighting at Sans Souci Beach
Andrea and I went to the beach as usual on Monday afternoon, August 22nd, and saw a "shark sighted" sign. That's
the first time I've heard of a shark sighting there.
Andrea took this picture of the dark sky over the Waianae and the shark sighted sign.
Andrea was reading her book when I came back from my pullups and bardips by the Natatorium.
Andrea's Docent Tour at Manoa Heritage Center
Andrea conducted a tour with Jennifer Crites for fourth graders on Thursday morning, August 25th.

Sign Waving for Hillary Clinton
Andrea and I met fellow Democrats at the Kamehameha statue across from Iolani Palace on King Street on Friday afternoon,
August 26th, and held Hillary signs and waved at passing cars for a little over an hour. Then we headed to
Waikiki to have dinner with Simina in her new apartment.
We parked in the metered parking at Iolani Palace at a meter with an hour and a half already on it.
Andrea by the "stop for pededstrians" sign.
We had about a dozen partisans for the event.

Ron and Kai came to Simina's for dinner too. Ron chats with Andrea while Kai plays with his new selfie stick.

We had dinner on the lanai. It was a lovely evening.
Cheers. Simina's new place is closer to Diamond Head and on the eighth floor. Photo by Simina.

It was a great dinner. Simina and Ron enjoy the food.
Saturday afternoon Andrea took Mom for a drive around the east end of the island while I mowed the lawn. Photo by Andrea.
Lunch at Gyotaku
Andrea and I took Lenore to lunch at Gyotaku in Niu Valley on Sunday, August 28th.
Sunday morning I photographed the Herb Kane painting of Hokulea that we bought from Na Mea a while back.

Hurricanes Madeline and Lester
The two hurricanes were approaching the Hawaiian Islands on Tuesday, August 30th.
