May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii

On May 1st Andrea led a tour at the Manoa Heritage Center and later we went to the beach.

The fire engine was back for a second day.

Huli Kauwela and Spam Jam

On Saturday, May 2nd, Andrea and I went to Waikiki for a swim and then attended the Huli Kauwela ceremony at Queen's Surf before going to see Spam Jam on Kalakaua Avenue.


Halau Mele performed the chanting.

Spectators said the parts in red.


The street was closed to automobile traffic for Spam Jam.


After seeing Spam Jam with lots of vender booths we went to the Moana Hotel for a while, but service was slow so we left.

Kalani Robotics Mentor Meeting

On Wednesday, May 6th, Andrea and I went to California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) in Kahala Mall to meet with 16 other mentors to talk about the future.


Andrea hung up the air plant jellyfish we bought Tuesday night at the Aina Haina farmers' market.


We had a very long table at CPK after waiting for 50 minutes. I had a Thai chicken pizza and Andrea had half a salad.

Women's Campus Club Lunch

On Saturday, May 9th, Andrea and I took Lenore to the Oahu Country Club for the Women's Campus Club (WCC) lunch.

The event was well attended.

Mothers' Day

On Sunday, May 10th, I baked five dozen chocolate chip cookies for Mothers' Day.


I used the recipe on the package.


Stephany and Lynn came over to help us celebrate the day.


We had to stay inside because of rain and wind. Andrea roasted the chicken thighs in the oven.

Dinner at Roy's Restaurant

On Tuesday, May 12th, Andrea and I took Lenore out for dinner at Roy's in Hawaii Kai.


We went for a swim in the afternoon and saw some watercraft activity at Sans Souci Beach. The jellyfish signs were up
so Andrea walked around the park while I swam and did my bar exercises (pullups and bardips) on the arbor by the Natatorium.

I liked the pattern the sunshine through the doorway made.

Diamond Head Luau Photos

Diamond Head Luau published photos of the April 20 event and I downloaded four of them.


Pete joined the line for hula lessons.

Rainbow Bonsai Club

Andrea and I attended the monthly bonsai club meeting in Waimanalo on Sunday, May 17th.

On Monday the 18th we received the grand kids' school pictures, so I scanned them.

Queen Emma Ball

Andrea and I attended the Queen Emma Ball, a fundraiser for her alma mater, Saint Andrew's Priory, on Wednesday, May 20th.


We went to the beach in the afternoon and I took this photo of a tourist bride on the sand.

Kumuola

Andrea and I went with several others from the Manoa Heritage Center to Kumuola, a native cultural farm in Manoa, on Thursday, May 21st.


We hiked up to the farm.


We were taken on a tour of the taro patches.

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend starts on Friday in Hawaii, May 22st. We saw three wedding photo parties simultaneously on Sans Souci Beach.


This is a bride and photographic assistant under the 100+ year old banyan tree in the park. No sign of the groom and photogrpaher.


We went out for a drive on Sunday the 24th. This is a view of Diamond Head from Laukahi Street.


There's a nice park on lower Laukahi Street.

We went to the top of Saint Louis Heights to the State Park there overlooking Manoa Valley. This was an item on our to-do list.

On Monday Andrea and I went to the Manoa Heritage Center where I led a tour for a small group of local people.

Date Night in Waikiki

Andrea and I went on a date night after swimming on Wednesday, May 27th.


Andrea went for a walk in the morning and photographed the dried up stream from Hind Drive bridge.

Manoa Heritage Center Event

Andrea and I volunteered to assist at the event at Manoa Heritage Center (MHC) on Thursday, May 28th.


Kuki played her eight string ukulele, Nicholas played guitar, and Robert played the baby grand piano.


Hula too.


I helped with the parking while Andrea worked the greeting table.


Kuki also danced hula.


Traditional and original music.


The Aquarium now has five Ke Kani O Ke Kai flags up. Friday afternoon after 10 pullups.


Rain off at the Waianae after 16 bar dips.


Saturday morning Andrea went off early to CERT training at Diamond Head.

Andrea and I took Lenore and Estelle to the musical on Sunday, May 31st.


We had 0.17 inch of rain overnight on Sunday morning and the stream was running again.

The stage is obscured with a nice curtain as the theater fills up.


During intermission I climbed the stone stairs behind the parking lot and got this photo of Kapiolani Park in the distance.
