Week Two February 2015 Journal Photos

Kalani Robotics Build Season Week Six

We are in the sixth and final week of the FRC robot build period.

On Monday the 9th Andrea and I attended the evening's activities.

Art Museums

On Wednesday the 11th we took Lenore to the contemporary museum (Spalding House) in the morning and in the evening Andrea and I attended the opening at the Honolulu Museum of Art of the Islamic art exhibition.

We ate lunch in the cafe there.

Honolulu Museum of Art

In the evening we went to the Shangri La exhibit opening at the Honolulu Museum of Art.

Belly dancers entertained. We had some of the sweet snacks, but not the wine. Attended a community preparedness meeting afterward.

The next day, Thursday, Andrea went for a walk around Kapiolani Park while I swam. Music in the park. Photo by Andrea.

After my swim I walked down by the Aquarium and saw them setting up for a koi festival.

Walking back I saw two police on 4-wheelers.

Thursday evening I went to Kalani High School for the robotics build.

They were testing and improving the lift.

We have a nice looking robot.

Friday morning Andrea took this photo of workers spraying plant killer in the stream.

Valentine's Day Weekend

Andrea and I met Simina at Marks Garage on Friday the 13th to see a performance of Money Talks, but what the Hell is it Saying? This performance was part of the weekend Fringe Festival in several venues. Lucie Lynch in Money Talks is a friend of Simina's and we met her after the show.

I downloaded a Grateful Dead graphic from Facebook for the occasion.

Marks Garage in Chinatown

We heard firecrackers and lion dancing down the street when we got to Chinatown so we went to watch.

Andrea took this one of me taking the photo above.

A bit later the dancers came around the corner toward Marks Garage.

We went into Madre Chocolate.

Andrea likes dark chocolate.

After the show in Marks Garage, we went with Simina and two friends (but not Lucie) to The Dragon Upstairs for drinks.

Simina used my phone to take this one of us.

Science Fair at KCC

On Saturday, Valentine's Day, I dropped Andrea off at KCC to help Kalani Robotics at the Science Fair. Photo by Andrea.

They were packing up the trailer when I arrived to pick up Andrea at 1:00 PM (six hours later).

I installed the kii pohaku (welded copper petroglyph) that Andrea gave me for Valentine's Day. Photo by Andrea.

Andrea took a photo of the Valentine card I got for her at the Contemporary Museum gift shop.

Kobe Steak House

In the lounge of the Kobe Steak House for our dinner reservation on Valentine's Day.

Our chef in action at the Kobe Steak house. We were seated with three nice couples, also on Valentine dates.

The Flying Dutchman

I remodeled "Da Beach" after lunch on Sunday the 15th. I sprayed spar varnish on the gnomes Robert gave me
to help protect them from the sun.

We took Lenore to The Flying Dutchman opera and I took this photo of the lobby during the intermission from the stairway
landing in the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall. We had dinner afterward at Kincaid's in the Ward Warehouse where I met a 97 year
old member of 442nd "Go for Broke" celebrating his birthday. He was wounded in Italy a month before the war ended.
