Quartet at Manoa Valley Theater

Andrea and I took Lenore to see the play Quartet at Manoa Valley Theater on sunday, December 1st.


On her morning walk, Andrea photographed the grading at the condemned lot on Hao Street. No building or grading permit
has been posted.

Bonsai Bench Refurbishment

I repainted and reorganized the front yard bonsai benches on Wednesday, December 4th.


I took off the bonsai and suiseki and repainted the tops of the shelf boards. Click the image to see the full resolution

I now have five bonsai on the top shelf and four on the bottom, with one and three suiseki, respectively. Click the image

Later Andrea and I went for a swim at the beach. There was a nice array of sailboats in Waikiki.

Helemano Christmas Tree Farm

Andrea and I took Lenore up to look at Christmas trees to Wahiawa on Friday, December 6th.


We stopped at Koa Pancakes for lunch on California Avenue in Wahiawa.


The public library across the street displayed palm tree style.

The Christmas tree farm is on Whitmore Road just before the entrance to the Navy station where I used to work.


Lenore got to ride in the electric cart.


We bought two potted cypress trees and this Norfolk pine wreath.


Later Andrea and I went to the beach.

FIRST Tech Challenge Championship

Andrea volunteered to work all day on Saturday, December 7th, at the Neal Blaisdell Center for the FIRST Tech Challenge Championship.

The team ended up ranked 10th overall out of 16 and they won the Connect Award.

Mark Hashem Holiday Party

Andrea and I took Lenore to Mark Hashem's (Hawaii State House member) holiday gathering at Aina Haina Chop Suey restaurant on Monday evening, December 9th.


On Monday afternoon Andrea hosted the Women's Campus Club board meeting.


Later I went to the beach. It was a very low tide (first quarter moon at 3:45 PM). Click image to see the

UH ASME Networking Dinner

Andrea and I attended the first annual student American Society of Mechanical Engineers networking dinner at the University of Hawaii in a Campus Center dining room on Friday evening, December 13th.


We first had an icebreaking competition to build a car from marshmellows, lifesavers, and linguini. Our team won.


The competition roll-off. This was followed by a good dinner. The student chapter did a great job. Looking forward to
next year!

Rainbow Bonsai Club Show

Andrea and I drove to Noelani Elementary School to see the Rainbow Bonsai Club show in the cafeteria on Sunday morning, December 15th. Rain was predicted but we got there at 10:00 AM before the rain started.

Elf at Diamond Head Theater

Andrea and I took Lenore and picked up Estelle and attended Elf at Diamond Head Theater on Sunday evening, December 15th.


This is the second week. All the shows are sold out.


Apparently Hawaiian snowflakes have five points.


We met Lynne, Flo, and Carol at the theater and rendezvoued at JJ's restaurant in Kaimuki for dinner.


Andrea likes the decorative plates on the wall.


On Tuesday we went to the UPS store in Kahala and Andrea bought me a painted coconut. December 17th.


With the wooden gladius Thomas sent me for my birthday and our Christmas tree.


Later on Tuesday we went to the beach for a swim and I took this picture looking toward Manoa Valley across Kapiolani
Park. It was a very sunny day.

Kalani Robotics Parent Meeting

Getting ready for the FIRST Robotics Compeition (FRC) season, we held a parent meeting Wednesday evening, December 18th.


But first I went to the beach while Andrea met with Sandra on Women's Campus Club business.


The parent meeting was well attended.


Andrea sat in the back and took notes.


On Thursday we stopped by the Malama Maunalua offices to drop off a plate of treats and we received these nice wooden

Friday's Star-Advertiser had this photo of the Kalani Robotics team's teacher's engineering class's bridge, inspired by
the team's visiting the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit during the FRC World Championship earlier this year in Saint Louis.

Saving Mr. Banks at Kahala Mall Theater

Andrea and I took Lenore to see the movie Saving Mr. Banks Thursday evening, at the Kahala Mall theaters, December 18th. We had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen first. Andrea and I split a duck pizza and Lenore had the small plate arugula and spinich salad. Then we walked around the mall waiting for the movie time of 7:00 PM.

Becky's Visit

Becky arrived at the Honolulu International Airport Sunday, December 22nd, and Andrea and I went there and picked her up at baggage claim C3.

Christmas

We had a Christmas party on Christmas Eve, December 24th.

We drove to Makapuu on Christmas day to see if Rabbit Island was green. It was! I made this stitched photo from three

I got a new Verizon LG G2 phone for Christmas so I tested it with this afternoon rainbow shot. It has a 1.78
aspect ratio, so I have increased my standard Web photo width using 30% reduction to 1248 pixels wide (x 702 high).


On Thursday, the day after Christmas, we went to Don Quijote to buy firecrackers for New Year's at the Young's.

Wailupe Valley Hike

Andrea and I took Becky on a hike up Wailupe Valley on Friday, December 27th.

Visit to Horans

Andrea and Becky and I visited the Horans on Saturday, December 28th. Artist friends Jesse and Mary arrived at the same time and we had lunch together downstairs.


Suzi showed us their Christmas tree decorated with found beach toys. It's lovely.


Jesse gave Horan a green felt top hat.

On Sunday, the 29th, Becky helped cut a branch off the lychee tree with the pole saw.


We went to the beach on Monday afternoon and I took this photo of the Black Pearl at Waikiki.

New Year's Eve Party at the Young's

Andrea, Lenore, Becky, and I attended the traditional New Year's Eve party at the Young's on Tuesday, December 31st.


On Tuesday, New Year's eve, we went to the Young's house to help with getting the pig roast ready.


The pig is doused with boiling water after trussing.


Dan and Stacy lift the pig over the fire onto the rotisserie.


In the afternoon Andrea and I took Becky to the beach and took this photo at the Dillingham fountain.


Becky enjoyed the water and sun.


Carl tends the fire.


The pig is done around 6:30 PM.


Becky learns how to play Mahjongg.
