Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was elected Governor of California when I was a senior at Salinas High School. I remember the owner of a liquor store remarking at the time that it was about time we got back to a "two party system." California had had a long string of Democratic Governors, but I wasn't sure that embracing Reagan's brand of conservatism was a good idea. He immediately raised tuition at the California State colleges and universities.

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was an American politician who served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989 and became a highly influential voice of modern conservatism. Prior to his presidency, he was a Hollywood actor and union leader before serving as the 33rd governor of California from 1967 to 1975. --Wikipedia

Reagan was governor of Califoria when I was drafted during the Vietnam War in the spring of 1969.
