March 25, 1938 - Diamond Head, Kapahulu, O'ahu. Fort Ruger dominates the mauka rim of Leahi, with the military base and
officer's housing. The crater floor is overgrown, with access via small roads. A version of the pillbox appears to be
mounted on the makai ledge, where it still stands today. Kapiolani Park is dominated by the polo field, with the stables
mauka of the park. La Pietra is one of the few homes visible, and the Hibiscus & Coconut developments. Kapahulu is a quiet
residential neighborhood, housing many of the musical families that performed in Waikiki. All of the streets in Kapahulu
and Kaimuki would later be widened. The Waikiki Shell won't be built for another 20 years. High rises do not yet exist.
Shade trees abound. All of this would change in 3 years with the advent of WWII. --Harry B. Soria via Facebook.
