Hawaii Kai

The inland lagoon of Hawaii Kai is called Kuapa Pond.

1961 - Portlock Road, Maunalua Bay, East-side, O'ahu, Hawaii. Soon after Statehood arrived, this area was bracing for changes.
Portlock Road supported an intimate neighborhood of cozy homes and shade trees along the shoreline. Portlock Pier can be seen
in the center of the road. The new Kaiser Estate is being built at the end of the road. On the slope above, you can see the
early roads being carved out for future development. Surrounding Koko Head Elementary, there are a few new homes coming up.
There is also some dredging beginning along the edge of Kuapa Pond. In the lower right hand corner, you can also see Rosa's
Pier, where many of us learned to swim in the early 1950s. This aerial photo of the Portlock Road area captures the quiet
