San Francisco

San Francisco is 100 miles north of Salinas by the 101 highway, El Camino Real. My parents took us kids to see ballet and opera there. We would stay at the Saint Francis Hotel where the elevators had human operators.

When I was a teenager (in 1967 and '68) I would go with friends to San Francisco and sometimes we would stay overnight with hippies on Haight Street.
