Monterey
Monterey is about 20 miles southeast of Salinas, where I grew up, by Highway 68, the Monterey Highway. My friends and I would
occasionally drive there for sight seeing and just hanging around. I could go to Monterey and back in my 1958 six cylinder
Chevrolet Del Rey on a dollar's worth of gas. I would take it out of gear on the downhill sections of the Monterey Highway.
