Photos from the Album with the Needlepoint Cover "Y.P.O SYDNEY 1981"

These are images scanned from the needlepoint covered album kept by my mother, Evelynne Aoki, and obtained from the effects of her husband, Mits, after his death. Thanks to Galen and Sophie Ann Aoki for their gracious kindness. Not all the images have been scanned (in some cases I don't know the people in the photo or they are inferior photos at the same event), and the albums will be given to the custody of my sister Christina who probably knows more about relatives than I do.

The "scan" number in the filename is the order in which the photo occurred in the album sequence, and in most cases has little relation to the photo date. The albums may have been assembled from earlier collections. I have tried to present the photos on this page in chronological order as well as I can. In some (rare) cases the date shown is from a hand written notation on the back of the photo, but in most cases the date is the print date, which can be several months after the photo date. Where no date is given, none was available. My email address is at the bottom of this page, so if you can provide information on any photos, please do so.

My father and mother, probably around 1947, at the Reeves ranch on
Monterey Highway, eight miles south of Salinas.

Mom and John, probably around 1949. She looks a lot like my sister Christina.

Dad and Mom with the kids, Walter, me, John, and Christina, at the new house
on San Juan Drive in Salinas.

My Mom loved decorating for Christmas, 1957. This was the first year that
I understood what the year (1957) meant. I was eight.

Beverly, Ed, Mom, and Grandmother, probably at the Reeves house for Christmas, 1957.
A well framed photo and I assume Dad was the cameraman.

Three boys in the tub, Walter, John, Rick.

It must be Christina's birthday (January 19) in the kitchen on San Juan Drive.
Walter, Mom, Chris, me, John. Good photo framing by Dad, I assume.

Not sure of the year but probably Thanksgiving or Christmas. Walter and I look at the
turkey in the oven.

Same day as the above photo. Grandmother Reeves and Mom in the kitchen.

I don't know who, where, or when. Let me know if you do.

Clipping from The Salinas Californian, the local afternoon (and only) newspaper.

The living room was newly decorated in the mid-50s by my uncle Ed (Edwin Reeves).

My Dad built the telephone pole in the back yard for us kids to climb on.
The Japanese plum in the middle of the near grass area was just a sappling.

Built in bench, cabinets, and shelves were typical of the architecture.
