Radiation Detector Phone App

Abstract

This patent application describe our invention of a phone application to detect, measure, record, and communicate ionizing radiation phenomena.

Invention

Cellular telephones have evolved to include many kinds of sensors, including cameras, accelerometers, and GPS receivers. Our invention extends cell phones further to become Geiger counters, radiation detectors, and radiation measuring and recording devices.

Our invention comprises the addition of hardware and software to a general purpose cellular phone, such as an iPhone, Android phone, or other hand held communications device.

The invention utilizes a single-chip (or multi-chip) scintillating radiation detector in concert with appropriate software to convert the radiation detection signals from the chip(s) into audio or graphical display while recording the data into a data file for digital storage and communication.
