May Meeting Demonstration

At the invitation of San Diego's Fred Miyahara, shohin master Tomohiro Masumi came to California to give demonstrations, workshops, and critiques. Jim Peerson, Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai's program chairman, invited Tomohiro Masumi to give a demonstration at our club. Mas Ishii of Chikugo-En Bonsai Nursery donated material for the demonstration.

The demonstration material is eight to 10 year old shimpaku juniper from Mas Ishii's
Chikugo-En Bonsai Nursery. The shohin bonsai on the stand will be restyled. The tree in the
one gallon container is raw material that has a very curvy trunk.

More work on the tree. Some jins (bare wood) are formed and copper wire is used to hold
branches in place.

The finished tree has a new front and is tilted toward the camera by 20 to 30 degrees.
